The Sudanese government has embarked on a process at the national level to develop a policy and strategic plan to give clarity and direction, and ascribes accountability for water, sanitation and hygiene development. The main mission of this Ministry is to establish laws, rules and regulations concerning water resources in general, and water supply and sanitation in particular. Embedded in the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources is the Sudanese Meteorological Authority (link). Its mission is to provide weather and climate information and services of quality to help decision-makers to plan and take action to ensure food security, poverty reduction and a sustainable development. The Meteorological Authority furthermore works on the development early warning systems for disaster prevention, environmental conservation, adaptation to climate change and to stop the degradation of forests and land.
