The University of Cape Coast was established in 1962 as a University College and placed in a special relationship with the University of Ghana, Legon. In 1971, the College attained the status of a full and independent University. Today, UCC is the number one university in Ghana. It has four colleges: the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, of Education Studies, of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, as well as of Health and Allied Sciences.
