The project builds on the TB Sequel cohort, a large prospective study of 1,560 newly diagnosed tuberculosis (TB) patients, which provided a unique platform to investigate post-tuberculosis lung disease (PTLD), including its underlying mechanisms and risk factors.
TB Sequel II focuses on the long-term progression of PTLD and its associated health and socio-economic impacts up to 8–10 years after TB diagnosis. It also aims to develop and implement new strategies for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of PTLD, as well as integrate these approaches into local healthcare systems.
