The project “Brain Train” promotes brain health in Zambia through an innovative digital training program. Led by Andrea Winkler and Tamara Welte at the Center for Global Health, Technical University of Munich (TUM), in collaboration with the Neurology Unit of the University Teaching Hospital, University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka, the initiative aims to sustainably improve care for people with neurological, neurosurgical, and psychiatric conditions in rural areas. For the first time in Africa, the project applies the ECHO® telemedicine model (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) to neurological care, providing remote mentoring to support treatment and prevention, while training and networking healthcare professionals. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinarity, sustainability, and scalability, building on a previously successful neurology training program.
