TAKeOFF II – Network to overcome challenges in the control of filariasis

The TAKeOFF II network is a German–African collaboration aiming to improve the prevention and treatment of filariasis and podoconiosis in Ghana, Cameroon, and Tanzania. Filariasis is a parasitic worm infection, while podoconiosis is a non-infectious disease caused by long-term exposure to irritant soil particles, typically through barefoot walking. The project investigates, among other things, whether WHO hygiene and treatment protocols for both diseases are still correctly implemented after the end of intensive patient monitoring. TAKeOFF II works in close coordination with the Ministries of Health in the participating countries. Building on the successes of the first funding phase, the network contributes to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and aligns with the WHO 2030 roadmap for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
