The University of Linz was founded in 1966. It comprises four faculties, namely the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences as well as the Faculty of Medicine. Additionally, there are six schools covering different scientific fields.

There is an Energy institue affiliated to JKU: Energieinstitut an der JKU. This institution is the ccordinator of the EU-funded CAMPAIGNers project.
